What Our Students Say About Us

Shantha is not only a wonderfully talented musician herself, she is a patient, kind and thorough instructor, she has remarkable attention to detail, quickly recognizes possible improvements, and offer methods and strategies to practice them effectively. My son has not only become an advanced pianist under her guidance, but also acquired enthusiasm and the ability to truly understand and appreciate music
- Candy Zhou
Galip Chen’s Mum
Shantha is everything one could ask for in a piano teacher. She is loving and patient, but also firm when she needs to be, and as a result our son looks forward to his lesson each week while showing steady improvement. She is both a skilled musician and a caring person, whose calm, encouraging energy is highly conducive to the teaching process. Five stars for sure! If you have the opportunity to learn from her, I would advise taking it.

Parents of Jules

We originally chose Shantha due to her extensive credentials such as a PHD in Ethno-musicology from Russia, other degrees and being a Royal Conservatory of Music Advanced specialist and adjudicator for this and other music programs.

She has led my son, Vincent, to achieve very high exam results of First-class honours with distinction.

Shantha is meticulous in teaching all the finer points for reaching a virtuoso performance. Very caring and dedicated, regimented with details and a good sense of humour.

- Robert
Vincent’s Dad

I believe it is crucial in an artistic subject to have a teacher who explains concepts concisely, and with no room for misinterpretation. Under Ms Shantha’s tutelag, I attained high marks in ABRSM UK Paino and Voice exams and allow me to successfully achieve a BA in Music Performance for British University.I owe these and many other accomplishments in my musical career to Ms Shantha ‘s expertise, wisdom and guidance.

I have been a piano student under Shantha Gunasekera for the past ten years, and she has guided me from a near total beginner through to an intermediate level pianist, Shantha's excepionally broad training and experience makes her an ideal teacher for piano students of every kind, whether young or mature, beginner or expert, even those with challenges. Her style is challenging but cheerful and positive as she encourages her me to not only learn the techniques, but how to analyze the music and learn how to teach myself. I look forward to several more years under her tutelage, knowing that my own musical ability will never exceed her ability to teach.
- Keven MacDonald

Last year I moved to Switzerland for a Master’s studies in physics. Even though the university is already challenging, I still choose to learn piano with Shantha via online classes because I already make steady progress.

Her encouragement helps me build my confidence in piano, and leaves positive impacts on my physics studies as well.

- Judy
MSc physics student, University of Zurich

As a teacher Ms Shantha is very meticulous person. She would try to perfect every aspect of my playing,  from the fingering to the detailed articulation of phrase structures. Her tendency is to drive anyone to their full potential.

Her knowledge of harmony, music theory, orchestral instruments and technical knowledge in general was tremendously helpful when she preparing me for the music exams.

Her on the spot knowledge of music history, working figured bass, orchestral instruments ranges, musical direction terms (just to name few) was more useful than any reference book.

Her method of teaching have instilled within me the drive to always try new and harder pieces and have motivated me to always strive to achieve my full potential.
